Quality: Process

Quality Assurance Program

Through years of development and continual refinement Frazer & Jones has created a proactive quality system that guides each phase of the foundry casting design process.

Frazer & Jones focus is on quality checks to ensure that our experience and expertise are the right fit for the new cast iron projects. Our Technical and Quality team review our customers’ requirements and offer a feasible and effective casting solution. We achieve this solution by a Technical team-based review of initial concept and determine customer requirements and goals.

All of this results in a high-quality iron casting produced by Frazer & Jones.

Our team proceeds with preliminary engineering of casting tooling. Technical and Quality determine the best use of tooling design to fit requirements, machine performance expectations and customer’s budget. This includes layout / metal flow of the iron alloy, determine potential manufacturing failure scenarios and assess timing required for secondary operations so the iron castings can be manufactured at the optimum level.

Solidification is analyzed into each part and is achieved through pattern gating that directs molten iron metal flow to critical areas of the pattern. This design is proprietary to Frazer & Jones. The result is the successful transformation of liquid matter into solid matter to achieve a porosity free high quality iron casting.

The microstructure that results from solidification directly affects the mechanical properties of the product. Frazer & Jones also engages in heat treatment or other processes that may be used after solidification to further modify the solidification microstructure.
